Cygnar vs Menoth (eHaley vs Thyra) 35pts - Battle Report

Time for another quick battle report. Got a chance to play against Menoth, which doesn't happen that often. The last couple of days I've just been playing around with some lists without really aiming for a win. So this time it's gonna be epic Haley with her favorite bonded-warjack, the Stormwall. The lists we're playing are:

Points: 35/35
Major Victoria Haley (*5pts)
* Stormwall (19pts)
* Squire (2pts)
Arcane Tempest Gun Mages (Leader and 5 (Grunts) (6pts)
* Arcane Tempest Gun Mage Officer (2pts)
Horgenhold Forge Guard (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
Journeyman Warcaster (3pts)

Points: 35/35
Thyra, Flame of Sorrow (*6pts)
* Redeemer (6pts)
* Reckoner (8pts)
Choir of Menoth (Leader and 3 Grunts) (2pts)
Daughters of the Flame (Leader and 5 Grunts) (5pts)
Exemplar Errants (Leader and 5 Grunts) (5pts)
Knights Exemplar (Leader and 5 Grunts) (5pts)
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution (3pts)
Exemplar Errant Seneschal (2pts)
Gorman di Wulfe, Rogue Alchemist (2pts)
Nicia, Tear of Vengeance (3pts)

(He also had 3 Wracks with him, which brought the list to 36 points, but since they never were used I will pretend that they never were present)

Setup

Setup:
The scenario today was "Close Quarter" from the Steamroller 2013 document. Either dominate your own flag or the opponents to score point. Simple. I won the roll and choose to be second player and picking the table edge and letting him be the first one to deploy and advance. I put the ATGM to counter his Daugthers of the Flame, and my Forge Guards to face his "weak" Errant arrows and blast damage from the Redeemer.

Turn 1

Mentoh - Stuff ran forward. Only the Daughters change their flank and moved down the middle instead of facing the ATGM. Thyra cast "Occulation" on the Daughters.

Cygnar - The units ran. Stormwall advanced and was just in reach for a Knight Exemplar which I shot and killed. Journeyman gave "Arcane Shield" to the Stormwall and eHaley cast "Deceleration".

Turn 2

Menoth - Thyra upkept Occulation and gave away some focus to the jacks. All his units ran forward, well within my upcoming charge range. Redeemer shot all his rockets at the Forge Guards, but only managed to kill one. Eyriss moved pretty far down my right flank, but still out of range for me to kill.

Cygnar - With all his units pretty far up and close together and saw my opportunity to feat. Stormwall advanced towards the Daughters and killed the entire unit with the help of the Stormpod and electro leaps. Haley advanced towards the flag and caught every single unit (except Eiryss) under her feat, she also cast "Deadeye" on the ATGM. The Gun Mages then advanced and killed all but 2 Knights Exemplar. Forge Guards moved up behind the Stormwall.

Turn 3

Menoth - Not much he could to this turn. Pretty much what he had left advanced forward. The two Knights Exemplar ended up in combat with the ATGM. The Reckoner moved into combat with the Stormwall and the Errants moved towards the Forge Guards. Redeemer managed to kill another 2 Forge Guards this turn since I hadn't cast "Deceleration". Thyra moved into the forest, again within range, this time for my Stormwall.

Cygnar - I hoped for a quick end to the game so I gave 4 focus to the Stormwall. Haley also moved into base contact with the objective and cast "Temporal Acceleration" on the Stormwall. The Stormwall then moved into combat with Thyra and went for the kill... or so I thought. I missed all my (boosted) attack rolls and only landed the last non-boosted one, and did 12 damage to her. ATGM tried to kill the Knights Exemplar but couldn't penetrate their armor, instead I used Thunderbolt to knock them down and away. Forge Guards charged the Errants and killed 3 of the and disabled the Seneschal.

Turn 4

Menoth - Thyra gave away 5 focus to her jacks (Reckoner got 2 and Redeemer 3). Knights Exemplar moved into combat with more ATGM and the Squire, which was hit and brought down to 1 box. Errants killed 3 Forge Guards and Eiryss was locked into combat with the Forge Guards and didn't manage to inflict any damage. Reckoner attacked Stormwall and did a couple of wounds. Redeemer moved up and tried to shoot a Haley but missed with all the shots, and the deviations went the wrong way to do any harm. Thyra backed away from the Stormwall and Gorman moved up and cast Black Oil on it.

Cygnar - Haley camped all her focus and took 1 extra from the Squire, then she moved up towards Thyra and cast "telekinesis" on herself to get LoS. Then she cast a single boosted "Time Bomb" which hit and killed The Flame of Sorrow.

Conclusion

I still don't think eHaley fit my style. I don't really like to "prevent" my opponent from playing his turn... it feels a bit like cheating. The Stormwall is just great with any Cygnar caster, but just a little bit better with Haley. I still haven't gotten around to see the power with the Forge Guards, but I still like them, and Haley give them a lot of extra support with Deceleration.

As for my opponent. This was the first time he played with Thyra and many of his units and solos. His biggest mistake was not really knowing what either Haley or Stormwall could do. He basically let me kill all his Daughters of the Flame for free, and then Haley got to affect his entire army with her feat. I still have a lot of respect for Menoth, because I know what they can bring to the battlefield.

Cygnar vs Khador (pStryker vs eButcher) 50pts - Battle Report

Time for another battle report. My friend just finished our new gaming table and it felt like a good time to try out some new things. The lists we are playing:

Points: 50/50
Commander Coleman Stryker (*6pts)
* Lancer (6pts)
* Stormwall (19pts)
* Squire (2pts)
Arcane Tempest Gun Mages (Leader and 5 Grunts) (6pts)
* Arcane Tempest Gun Mage Officer (2pts)
Horgenhold Forge Guard (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
* Captain Jonas Murdoch (2pts)
Sword Knights (Leader and 9 Grunts) (6pts)
Journeyman Warcaster (3pts)
Rhupert Carvolo, Piper of Ord (2pts)

Points: 50/50
Kommander Orsus Zoktavir (*6pts)
* Beast-09 (11pts)
* Juggernaut (7pts)
* Spriggan (10pts)
* War dog (1pts)
Doom Reavers (Leader and 5 Grunts) (6pts)
Great Bears of Gallowswood (5pts)
Iron Fang Pikemen (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
* Black Dragon Officer & Standard (2pts)
Widowmakers (Leader and 3 Grunts) (4pts)
Widowmaker Marksman (2pts)

Setup

We're playing the Steamroller 2013 scenario "Destruction" where you get points for destroying the objectives in each corner of your opponents side, and points for controlling the zone. Khador won the roll and decided to choose table edge and be the second player.

Everything deployed pretty much in the middle of the board. Doom Revers and Widowmakers advanced deployed on the flanks.

Cygnar - Turn 1

Run phase. Everything that could ran across the board. Journeyman Warcaster gave Arcane Shield to the Forge Guards, and Stryker gave Blur to the Gun Mages and Snipe to the Stormwall. Rhupert gave tough to the Sword Knights.

Khador - Turn 1

Butcher rolled and got 6 Focus. Everything pretty much ran or charged across the field to get as close as possible to the control zone. Widowmakers advanced into the woods and shot and killed a Gun Mage.

Cygnar - Turn 2

Not enough range to get the alpha strike on the Khadors I choose to run up and "jam" as much as possible. Sword Knights and Forge Guards advanced. ATGM shot and killed the Widowmaker Marksman and 3 grunts. The Stormwall had received two focus which he used to deal some damage to Beast 09, however I forgot to place my covering fires for some reason...

pStryker cast Earthquake through the Lancers Arc Node and knocked down Beast 09 and 3 Pikemen. Then he moved up and used his feat.

Khador - Turn 2

Butcher rolled and only got 2 focus this turn. The Pikemen activated first and moved into Shield Wall formation, and moved away from Butchers charge lane. Butcher then activated and charged into the Sword Knights, but due to some poor dice rolls he only managed to kill 4 of them. Both Beast 09 and Spriggan moved forward. Doom Reavers charged down the flank but only managed to inflict 5 wounds on the monolith-objective.

The last Widowmaker shot and killed a Forge Guard. He then used Butchers feat-tokens to get Beast and Spriggan into combat. Spriggan attacked the Stormwall but couldn't do any damage to his high armor. Beast manged to cause a couple of wounds to the Lancer, but not enough to cripple any systems.

Cygnar - Turn 3

Stryker didn't upkeep any spells this turn, and he gave 3 focus to the Stormwall. Sword Knights killed 3 Doom Reavers. Forge Guards moved into combat with both Warjacks and Doom Reavers, but they only manged to inflict 2 wounds on the Spriggan and kill a Doom Reaver. (The Forge Guard that charged Beast 09 rolled 1-1-1-2 on the damage roll).

Gun Mages killed the last Widow Maker and knocked back the Juggernaut. Lancer did 1 cortex damage to Beast 09. Stormwall activated and moved into combat with the Spriggan and killed it. Stryker moved up and took a pot shot at Beast 09 which hit and disrupted him and he cast Arcane Shield on the Stormwall. Rhupert gave tough to the Forge Guards this turn.

Khador - Turn 3

Butcher received 7 focus this turn. Pikemen activated first and charged into combat with Gun Mages and Stormwall. They killed a single Gun Mage and didn't inflict any damage to the Stormwall. Great Bears activated and moved into combat with the Lancer and did a good amount of damage. Beast 09 activated and did a thresher attack against 3 Sword Knights, 2 Forge Guards, The Lancer and two of his own Great Bears. He ended up killing everyone but a single Forge Guard who made his tough roll.

Butcher then activated and cast "Ravager" on himself for some berserk madness. He charged into the Forge Guards and started to swing, each time moving 1" closer towards pStryker. By the end he managed to kill every Forge Guards in his path and ended up within reach to Stryker. With enough focus left he took 2 fully boosted attacks to Strykers face and killed him.

The Weathermen

My eNemo 50pts Tier 1 list is almost fully painted... all that's remaining are 4 Stormsmith Stormcallers. I gave this list a try tonight against a Mercenary player that fielded Bart och 2(!) Galleons. We didn't have time to finish the game before the store closed, but I killed both the Galleons before I lost my first jack. It was basically just a question of "when" I would win. The scenario was "Into the Breach" and I was just about to start dominate the control zone. Oh well, I happy with how the list played. Made some stupid moves with my Stormcallers, but the list can work quite well.

For future references, this is the list I played.

Points: 50/50
Tiers: 1
General Adept Nemo (*6pts)
* Charger (4pts)
* Charger (4pts)
* Centurion (9pts)
* Stormclad (10pts)
* Stormwall (19pts)
* Squire (2pts)
Journeyman Warcaster (3pts)
Stormsmith Stormcaller (1pts)
Stormsmith Stormcaller (1pts)
Stormsmith Stormcaller (1pts)

A bunch of metal

My latest order from Discount gaming arrived this week and I've spent the last few hours "cleaning" and putting them together. It's quite a huge expansion of my force, and almost an army of its own. eCaine is the latest addition to my bench of Warcaster, and I'll have to admit he's quite fun to play.

Since I've played a lot with Kara Sloan and a pretty heavy range game it's nice to play with eCaine, whom I think works better with a melee heavy force, since he's basically a shooting unit on his own. At 35 points I'll probably play something along the lines of this list.

Captain Allister Caine (*5pts)
* Ol' Rowdy (9pts)
* Squire (2pts)
Greygore Boomhowler & Co. (Boomhowler and 9 Grunts) (9pts)
Horgenhold Forge Guard (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
Lady Aiyana & Master Holt (4pts)
Rangers (5pts)
Reinholdt, Gobber Speculator (1pts)
Rhupert Carvolo, Piper of Ord (2pts)

Now I also bought a box of Ogrun Assault Corp (or OAC for short). I don't really know in which list or with which caster I'll use them. They're not as good tar pit as the BoomHowlers, but they do bring AoE 3" guns with them. I'll probably try and run them with pStryker (for Snipe) or one of the Deadeye casters, and of course I'm gonna need to use Murdoch with them so they'll get "assault".

Battle of the Titans

I finished my Stormwall today, and currently working on the Storm Pods. Conquest still looks scarier.

Cygnar vs Menoth (eStryker vs eFeora) 35pts - Battle Report

I've bought a lot of new units and casters to my army and so has my friends. One of them is a Menoth player, and he is not in town that often, but today I got a chance to play against him. I didn't really know what kind of army I would be facing and I didn't feel like playing with any of my unpainted models, so I went for my eStryker list that I played at the tournament. This were the lists:

Points: 35/35
Lord Commander Stryker (*6pts)
* Lancer (6pts)
* Ol' Rowdy (9pts)
* Squire (2pts)
Stormblade Infantry (Leader and 5 Grunts) (5pts)
* Stormblade Infantry Officer & Standard (3pts)
* 1 Stormblade Infantry Storm Gunner (1pts)
Sword Knights (Leader and 9 Grunts) (6pts)
Archduke Alain Runewood (3pts)
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution (3pts)
Journeyman Warcaster (3pts)

Points: 35/35
Feora, Protector of the Flame (*6pts)
* Redeemer (6pts)
* Vanquisher (8pts)
Avatar of Menoth (11pts)
Choir of Menoth (Leader and 3 Grunts) (2pts)
Exemplar Errants (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
* Exemplar Errant Officer & Standard Bearer (2pts)
The Covenant of Menoth (2pts)
Vassal of Menoth (2pts)

Scenario: Process of Elimination

Setup

Menoth got the first turn and did a pretty basic setup with most of his jack in the center of his deployment zone. The Errants got placed against the Stormblades to inflict some damage with their Blessed weapons. I choose to split up my force and try do contest both zones. Eiryss got placed on the flank to try and disrupt as many jacks as possible. Thanks to Elite Cadre from eStryker the Stormblades advanced 5" before the game started.

Turn 1

Menoth: Everything basically ran up across the board. Choir did the battle song and eFeoras bonded Redeemer shot at the Stormblades. 2 perfect deviations killed all but 2 Stormblades right of the bat.

Cygnar: Stuff ran. Lancer and Ol' Rowdy moved up in the center between the two zones. Sword Knights ran into the zone on the left. The two Stormblades still standing moved up behind the wall in front of the right zone. eStryker and my solos followed close behind Ol' Rowdy in the middle.

Turn 2

Menoth: Vanquisher moved forward and shot and killed 4 Sword Knights. The Avatar moved into the middle between the zones. The Book gave "Flames of Wrath" to the Errants who then moved forward and shot at my Jacks and Stormblades. Ol' Rowdy got to countercharge and killed an Errant. Redeemer once again moved forward and shot his flaming rockets towards eStryker and my solos. With the help of some good dice rolls he killed both Runewood and my Journeyman Warcaster. eFeora moved forward and cast "Ignite" on the Errants (leaving her with 0 Focus).

Cygnar: Without my Stormblades and my Sword Knights quickly dying I saw a chance for a quick end to the game... assassination by eStryker. Ol' Rowdy started and used his "Tremor" attack which knocked down 4 Errants and making a path for eStryker to try the assassination. I activated Stryker and cast "Velocity" moving 6", charged eFeora and used "Overload" (rolled +10 STR and took 4 damage with 2 dices). I rolled and landed my charge attack which did about 13 damage, then I bought an extra attack which also hit and killed eFeora.

Conclusion

First time facing eFeora and the army of flaming death from afar. Don't really know how to avoid all the fire damage coming my way from turn 1. I only got lucky that my opponent is pretty new to the game and doesn't really know how far eStryker can run. No way I could have won that game any other way.

Stormwall in progress

Currently working on my Stormwall. Got a lot of work left to do, but once I'm done with the basic colors (blue, bronze and metal) I think it'll go faster. Then I'll either start working on my Stormstrider or perhaps my Forge Guards that I'll recive tomorrow.
